1 ½ cups sugar
½ cup margarine
1 egg
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp salt
2 cups flour
2 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in ½ cup boiling water
½ cup margarine
1 egg
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp salt
2 cups flour
2 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in ½ cup boiling water
Cream sugar and margarine together, then add egg and milk. Mix in dry ingredients and finally dissolve the baking soda in 1/2 cup of boiling water (use a 1-cup measuring cup and fill it half-full with the boiling water, because when you add the baking soda, it will foam up and fill the 1 cup measure while you are dissolving it. Finally, mix everything together and pour into a 9X13 greased pan. Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes.
NOTES: People say this cake tastes like Texas Sheet Cake... and it's especially yummy when topped with Easy Fudge Frosting. This recipe is an old faithful one, used by my grandparents in the 1950's when they lived in the Belgian Congo (and of course many of my other relatives in various countries around the globe through the years).
